Gulong Town is located in the northeast of Teng County, Guangxi. It has a history of more than 100 years of star anise cultivation. Star anise is the traditional pillar industry of Gulong Town. Gulong star anise has the characteristics of large fruit shape, bright red color, thick flesh, high oil content, fragrant smell, fresh and dry. Merchants from all over the world call the star anise here “big red star anise”. The town has a star anise planting area of more than 190,000 acres, and an annual output of 112,500 tons of star anise fruit. More than 85% of China’s star anise is produced in Guangxi, and 11% of them are from Gulong Town. That is to say, for every 10 star anise produced in China, one is from Gulong Town. In 2020, Teng county exported 6,125 tons of star anise, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%. Among them, Gulong star anise accounted for 90%, and most of the products were sold to the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Japan, South Korea, the European Union and other countries.
